(Jakarta) Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association Chairman Zhang Jinxiong, Secretary-General Zhou Weiliang, Vice Chairmen Lian Jiehao, Chen Xin, and Xue Tianzeng, Supervisory Committee Members Wang Zhenkun and Chen Boyan, Vice Chairmen Chen Hongping, Weng Hualing, and Chen Yingfu, Honorary Chairman Huang Zhiyong, and Executive Director of the Youth Department Yao Hanbin welcomed a seven-member delegation led by Guangzhou Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese Vice Chairman Li Miaojuan at the chamber on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. Wu Fenying, a first-level researcher at the municipal level, and Huang Guiming and Lu Jiezhi, Vice Chairmen of the Guangzhou New Overseas Chinese Association, were also present.
Zhang Jinxiong, Chairman of Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association, said, "First of all, on behalf of the Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association, I would like to extend a warm welcome and sincere greetings to all of you!" As ASEAN's largest economy, Indonesia's GDP totaled approximately US$1.4 trillion last year. With a demographic dividend exceeding 280 million, its economic growth rate consistently exceeds 5%, making it one of the fastest-growing consumer markets in the world. Indonesia also boasts the world's largest nickel reserves, and is a global leader in resources such as palm oil, coal, and rubber. It is also rich in natural resources such as marine fisheries, tropical fruits, coffee, and cocoa, offering broad prospects for cooperation.
Zhang Jinxiong stated that as the world's fourth most populous country and home to the largest overseas Chinese population, Indonesia boasts approximately 20 million ethnic Chinese. Over centuries of development, the ethnic Chinese have long been integrated into local society, living in harmony and mutual assistance with their fellow ethnic groups. They have collectively contributed to Indonesia's economic development and become a key force driving the country's economic growth.
The 2006 Nationality Law and the 2008 Anti-Discrimination Law clearly guarantee the equal rights of ethnic Chinese, fostering a democratic and inclusive environment for the development of Indonesia's multi-ethnic community. Today, we ethnic Chinese in Indonesia are not only the driving forces behind Indonesia's economic development but also a natural link between India and China in friendly cooperation.
Zhang Jinxiong pointed out that last year, bilateral trade between China and India reached US$147.8 billion, with China remaining Indonesia's largest trading partner for 12 consecutive years. It's worth noting that Guangzhou, as a frontier of China's reform and opening-up, holds enormous potential for cooperation with Indonesia. In 2024, total imports and exports between Guangdong and Indonesia reached 171.8 billion RMB, a year-on-year increase of 12.4%, accounting for one-sixth of the total bilateral trade between China and Indonesia.
In terms of investment, according to data from the Indonesian Ministry of Investment, Indonesia secured 171.42 trillion rupiah (approximately US$105 billion) in foreign investment last year, a year-on-year increase of 20.8%. Of this, investment from mainland China and Hong Kong reached US$8.1 billion and US$8.2 billion, respectively, second only to Singapore's US$20.1 billion, ranking as the top three sources of foreign investment in Indonesia.
Zhang Jinxiong further stated that Guangzhou, as one of China's most important economic and overseas Chinese cities, boasts a vast and well-developed overseas Chinese network. Indonesia, with its largest overseas Chinese population, forms a natural bond between Guangzhou's overseas Chinese heritage and Indonesia's Chinese network. We welcome the Guangzhou Municipal Government and entrepreneurs to visit Indonesia frequently. We also welcome Guangzhou entrepreneurs to seize Indonesia's development opportunities and invest and start businesses in Indonesia. We also look forward to more Indonesian companies leveraging Guangzhou's technological advantages and market access to promote two-way investment and trade, benefiting the people of both India and China.
Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association will, as always, fully leverage its platform advantages to provide necessary support and assistance for your cooperation. Finally, I sincerely wish Chairman Li and his delegation a successful and fruitful visit to Indonesia!
Li Miaojuan, Vice Chairman of the Guangzhou Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, expressed her gratitude to the leaders of Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association for their warm hospitality. Our visit to Indonesia is primarily aimed at promoting friendly exchanges and economic and trade ties between Chinese and Indonesian businesses. We hope that through this exchange with Indonesian Chinese Entrepreneur Association, we can further strengthen cooperation in the fields of trade, catering, culture, and tourism, and encourage more Guangdong companies to invest in Indonesia. We sincerely welcome everyone to take the time to visit Guangzhou, explore the city, and invest and start businesses.
